Guildford Sound and Light have just completed the design, supply and installation of a sensory room for Disability Challengers based in Farnham, Surrey. According to the charity this is a unique modern day equivalent of the first ever interactive sensory room that we installed over 10 years ago right here in Guildford. The new project was a chance to take this concept of the interactive sensory room to the next level.

Our special projects team worked closely with Ric Law, Managing Director of Disability Challengers to design a room where children of various disabilities could stretch their imagination as well as their physical limits. Eight high output RGB LED strips were used to light the ceiling allowing a huge range of effects from seamless colour mixes to a single colour chase around the room. Additionally there is a single Robe moving head hung in the centre of the room all controlled via a Pulsar Masterpiece 216 DMX desk. Guildford Sound & Light provided a custom interface to allow the user to trigger any pre-programmed environment in the room by activating a variety of specially made switches.

Changes in the lighting can also be activated by movement and sound. A Soundbeam is used to detect movement and in turn triggers an Edirol sound module which can be played through the compact but powerful JBL speaker system. Alternatively the Sennheiser lapel radio microphone can be utilised and any sound that is picked up is fed to the Masterpiece to control the lights.

This flexibility allows the care workers to stimulate, relax or excite all of the children in the most suitable way and we at Guildford Sound & Light hope that it brings them all enjoyment for many years to come.
