The Climbing Works is the biggest and best dedicated bouldering (low level rock climbing without ropes) facility in the world. Located in Sheffield, it is designed to cater for all standards of climber from complete novices to experts, children and adults alike. They host local, national and international competitions and have an open-deck night on a Friday.

When propositioned by the Climbing Works to install a sound system we relished the opportunity of working in a world class facility and designing a system that would give them the versatility they required.

Following visits during and after completion of the build we decided on a 6 speaker JBL Control 28 system powered by Crown amplification. This would provide an excellent sound reproduction and enable them to control the volume in different areas of the facility and also to use a variety of sound sources. We also supplied a Sennheiser radio mic for hosting the various competitions they run.

Sam Whittaker, Director at The Climbing Works, said “we are very pleased with the equipment Guildford Sound and Light supplied. We’ve opened the largest and best indoor bouldering facility in the world and we wanted a sound system that would complement what we have built. We have the ability to adjust the volume in different areas of the centre depending on what is going on. It can be nice and quiet during the day, then when we have competitions and our open-deck night we can crank it up.”
